The Fair

While my parents were visiting we made our annual trip to the North Carolina state fair. We’ve learned that it’s always better to visit the fair during the middle of the week and during the day instead of at night. It is way more crowded at night and there are a lot of punk kids running around since they are out of school. This year we happened to attend on canned food day and bought about $9.00 worth of canned food for admission rather than $8.00 per adult. A much cheaper excursion….. at least on the front end…..nothing at the fair is cheap!

We had a fun time checking out the baby chicks and ducks, Maddie was more into them this year, but still didn’t want to hold one. We walked through the rows and rows of chickens and roosters and visited the cow barn. By the time we got to the sheep and donkeys Charlotte needed to eat and Maddie was starting to fade and needed some fair food. We got huge roasted turkey legs and corn on the cob and some healthy fried stuff lol. We went to the kiddie ride zone and bought some tickets for Maddie. It is ridiculous how expensive ride tickets are and how many tickets you need for each ride. And for most of the rides Maddie needed an adult to go on with her which is even more tickets. She ended up going on the mini flying swings with Grandma, the carousel with Daddy and then went through this cool maze that had a huge slide at the end twice…..they didn’t charge the accompanying adult any tickets!!

I don’t have any pics of Charlotte from that day because I was wearing her almost the entire time while she napped…..which was a lot of fun for my back. We got to the car and both girls fell asleep on the way home. The fair is a BIG day for us and always a little bit hairy but it is another sort of tradition that we have that our kids will be able to remember as they grow up.

We stuck her in this wheel barrow.....I don't know how much she liked it!

Maddie and Grandma walking through the cow barn

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she didn't like the HUGE horse, but he was really soft and fuzzy.
